Frank was the fourth of twelve children and the oldest son. He married Bessie Kline in 1906, and they raised one daughter - Margaret (Peg). Early in life he worked as a packer at the cutlery works, then as a laborer at the wire rope works. For most of his career, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a clerk. Later, he worked for Rileigh Window Display Company as a window trimmer.
