CIVIL WAR
All that can be found about John Allen is an early headstone transcription:
John Allen, CO. C, 15th U.S.C.T.
The original marker is no longer standing and was probably lost when the tornado of April 3, 1974 destroyed part of the cemetery. The stone may have been mis-read; John Allen does not appear in any official records of the 15th U.S.C.T. or in Co. C of the 115th U.S.C.T. None of the 1890 Veterans' Schedule has a listing for a soldier in that company or regiment and the Greene Co., OH census records do not show a John Allen of the proper age or race who can be identified as this soldier.
