Myrtle Olive (Alden) Ramey, 85, rural Deadwood, SD, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 17, 2007 at her home near Deadwood.
Myrtle was a Christian woman who devoted her life to the Lord and her family. She was born March 15, 1921, at Armour, SD, to Olive Emma (Weekly) and Orville Austin Alden.
She attended Wanblee schools for 12 years, graduating in 1938. On August 18, 1939, she married James Graham Ramey of Philip, SD. She and Jim made their first home on Corn Creek and later moved to Bear Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Myrtle was a pioneer woman who raised her children without indoor plumbing. For 15 years, Myrtle maintained two homes, one on Bear Creek and one in Kadoka, where her children attended school.
In 1964 the Ramey family moved to a ranch 12 miles west of Belle Fourche. Upon retirement, Myrtle and Jim moved to a house in Belle Fourche, and in 1989, moved to their ranch near Deadwood.
Myrtle was supportive of many local groups and organizations. She was a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Hisle Bible Study, the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche, and the Nemo Community Church. Her home was always open to family and friends.
Myrtle was preceded in death by two sisters, one beloved grandson, Brian Schaefer, and an infant son, Jeffrey Jim.
Surviving Myrtle are her husband, James Ramey, Deadwood; four children, Joy Alice (Larry) Dolezal, Belvidere, SD, Ann Louise (Gary) Schaefer, Bozeman, MT, John Alden (Anita) Ramey, Fair Oaks, CA, Ellen Jane (Bryan) McMahon, Cedar City, UT; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mahlon Alden, Belle Fourche, SD; two sisters, Leatha Miller, Moscow, ID, and Joy Davidson, Granby, MO.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the Nemo Community Church in Nemo, with Pastors Nick Rombough, Dwayne Snell and Larry Dolezal officiating.
Burial follows at the Nemo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Nemo Community Church, Hospice of the Northern Hills. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren are establishing a memorial to Story Book Island.
