Donald Claude Roat was born January 22, 1933 in Bixby, OK to Virgil & Ruby (Rivett) Roat and passed from this life on July 6, 2011 in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 78.
After High School Donald served in the United States Army, spending much of his tour in the U.S. Army occupation of Germany. Upon his honorable discharge Don received two years of training in the HVAC trade and moved to Houston, TX. In 1979 he joined the pipefitters Union and made his home in twelve different states.
Donald retired in 1996 from being a pipe fitter and went to work for the city of Tulsa, mechanical code enforcement for a short period of time. He soon decided there was a reason he retired and worked as he desired. Often working as a operating engineer for a high rise condominium A few years later operated his own HVAC company and worked as a contractor for Sears. Donald traveled to Australia, Alaska, Europe, Israel and Kiev Ukraine. Donald went on two mission trips to the Ukraine and Germany. He said the Lord placed on his heart to open a coffee house/sandwich shop in Germany so that he could minister to the young people. This was not successful but he still held a great fondness for the German people. He made several visits to the country that won his heart and would have moved there but his health did not permit.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Roat.
Donald is survived by his son Don Roat II, daughter and son-in-law , Donna & Jorge Nerio and his sister, Betty (Roat) Gossett; his grandchildren, Justin Nerio and Sean Nerio. He also had a vast array of friends. His friends in Germany often called him Großvater (grandfather).
Donald will lie in repose 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and his funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, both at the Ninde Brookside Chapel with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, OK.
