PLEASANT HILL - William 'Bill' Bashore, 85, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011.
He was born April 19, 1926, in Pleasant Hill, to his parents, Gaylord and Maybell (Cecil) Bashore.
Bill graduated from Newton High School Class of 1944. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944-1946. He was involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima, where he saw the flag being raised. He later retired from Inland as a licensed stationary engineer.
Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laura, Troy Lodge No. 73 F & A.M. and Scottish Rite. He also held his private pilot's license.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis, in 2003.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Barry and Pamela Bashore of Pleasant Hill, Terri and Rick Wackler of Pleasant Hill, Tom and Joanne Bashore of Tipp City; grandchildren, Brent Wackler, Travis and Chrissy Bashore, Amanda and Jeff Brandt, and Jaclyn Bashore.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Jackson-Sarver Family Funeral, 1 S. Main St., Pleasant Hill. Pastor Pam Hitchcock will officiate, with interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Masonic services planned for 7:45 p.m.
If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Miami County Animal Shelter, 1110 N. County Road 25-A, Troy.
