Norwood Barr was born March 15, 1924, in Killeen and was raised and educated in Bell and Lampasas counties.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Killeen.
Mr. Barr served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He was a Technician fifth grade, assigned to the Medical Detachment, 1849th Service Command Unit.
He worked for Brown and Root for several years at West Fort Hood. He went into civil service for 10 years working on a special weapons project. Norwood ranched for five years and also worked at the Gatesville Correctional School.
He retired at Fort Hood from AAFES after working 20 years, which also included three years in Spain and England.
He worked as a sales representative for Pearl Co. and was a greeter at H-E-B on Gray Street and a greeter for First National Bank at Fort Hood.
Mr. Barr was the son of the late William (Bill) and Annie (Griffin) Barr. He married Doris (Springman) Barr Sept. 13, 1952. Survivors include his wife, daughter, Pam (Barr) Behrens; granddaughter, Shanna (Behrens) Connor; two great-grandsons, Shawn Ferguson and Zander Connor, all of Killeen.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Denver and Estle Barr. Those that knew him, loved him. He never met a stranger. He always treated everyone like they were family.
