OBITUARY FROM JOHNSON CITY PRESS (OCT. 30, 2007)

CLEVELAND, Tenn. ? Martha Marie Street, age 95, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006.

She was born to the late Dora and Bruce Henley on October 14, 1911 in Washington County, Tennessee. In her early years she was a court stenographer in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Ogleva Street, who was a Methodist and United Methodist pastor for over fifty years.

They served in ministry together in churches in the Kingsport and Johnson City areas, in Cleveland and also Jonesville, Virginia. Mrs. Street was a beloved Sunday School teacher and served in several areas of responsibilities in the churches they served as well as leadership in the District and Holston Conference Women?s Society of Christian Service which preceded the United Methodist Women. She served as conference treasurer for several years and also served as secretary to the District Superintendent of both the Abingdon, Virginia and Cleveland, Tennessee Districts of the United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and was known for the beautiful floral arrangements she often made from the flowers in her garden as well as the prize tomatoes she grew. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Henderson, and three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Jean and Jim Henderson of Cleveland; two grandsons and spouses: Mike and Judy Henderson, and Tim and Renee Henderson; five great-grandsons: Jim, J.D., Cole, Conner and Chase Henderson, all of Cleveland; special nephew, Richard Vines of Johnson City; special niece, Patsy Broyles Leach of Johnson City; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2006, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Haskins officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. On Tuesday, October 31, 2006, her family will receive friends at the Morris Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City from 1-2 p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 3407 Peerless Road, Cleveland, TN 37312, the Holston Home in Greeneville, Tennessee, or to Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee.
