John Adamski was the first born child of Jan 'John' Adamczyk and Anna Alice (nee Rychlak) Adamczyk, who lived in New Haven CT at the time of his birth. The family changed their surname to Adamski prior to moving to Springfield, Massachusetts. He had younger siblings, Frank, who died in 1938, Anna, Marie and Anthony. John went to work early in life to help support his mother and siblings after the tragic death of his father in a fall. He met and married Caroline Rokita, who was born in Massachusetts, but was living in the Colchester, CT area. After their marriage they lived in Springfield, Massachusetts where their son John was born in 1940. While living at 17 Greenwood Street he worked for the Moore Drop Forge Company in Springfield, as a forger, and afterwards for the Boston & Albany Railroad as a brakeman. John was a tall man, well over six foot tall, and after many years of hard, physical work was an imposing presence, almost literally filling a doorway when he walked through it. He succumbed to lung cancer after years of cigarette smoking, and passed away in the former Springfield Hospital (now Baystate Medical Center) on Chestnut St. in Springfield, Massachusetts.
