MRS. EMMA APPLEN
Mrs. Emma Applen, 88, of Spring Valley passed away Dec. 5 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin where she had been a patient for 12 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, Rev. W. J. Pilgrim officiating, and she was laid to rest in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
The former Emma Torgeson was born March 20, 1872 in Bristol Township and was united in marriage to Ole Applen on May 1, 1895 at the Saetersdal Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the area until 1910 when they moved to Spring Valley.
Her husband, and a son and two daughters preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her departure five daughters, Mrs. Harry McCracken of Newton, Kansas, Mrs. Floyd Dunlap of Milwaukee, Mrs. Perry Williams of Arkansas City, Kansas, Mrs. W. J. Collins of Austin, and Mrs. Earl Doering of Wykoff; three sons, Irving of Wykoff, Raymond of Rochester, and Donald of Eyota; 30 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. E. O. Broxon of Santa Cruz, California, Mrs. Josephine Mick of Minneapolis, and Mrs. John Klemann of Tomah, Wisconsin.
