Rebecca Lance Tow, wife of William Tow.

Rebecca was born about 1827 in Buncombe County, North Carolina...the daughter of Martin B. Lance & Jerusha Fletcher Lance. She and William Tow married about 1843 probably in Buncombe or Henderson County, North Carolina. They lived in North Carolina long enough for the first 2-3 kids to be born there, then by 1850 they were living in Union County, Georgia.

William Tow received a pension in the 1890s for joining in the 1830s to help with the removal of the Cherokee. In the pension papers, it is stated that Rebecca died in 1869 and was buried in the "Zion burial ground." This would be the current day Zion Suches Baptist Church cemetery since they lived in the community.

There is no marker and no other record of her burial. Descendants hope to have a marker placed in the cemetery. Her husband, William Tow, remarried to Perniece/Pernecy Elizabeth Seabolt Lunsford1 in 1871. He died on 26 Jan 1896 in Sonoraville, Gordon County, Georgia and was buried at Old Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery; Sonoraville, Gordon County, Georgia.

Two other children whose exact burial locations haven't been determined are:

Nancy Melinda Tow Hite who married Andrew Jackson Hite was traced to Alabama. The following death noticed was located by Tony Pope: Mrs. A.J. Hite, aged about 45, dropped dead in a vehicle while returning from church at Forney on Sunday night. (Friday, August 10, 1906)

NOTE: This was published in "The Coosa River News" on Friday, August 10, 1906. Since it states Mrs. A.J. Hite was returning from church on Sunday and died, that would mean Sunday, August 5, 1906.

I believe she is probably buried in Cherokee County, Alabama where at least two of her children are buried.

Another child of William & Rebecca Lance Tow, William Jasper Tow, is probably buried in Arkansas since that is where he was last found.
