William A. Poe was born in Harrison County, Missouri in 1864 to Samuel A. and Phebe Claypool Poe. William married Lucinda Myrtle Thornton December 25, 1895 in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa. The couple lived in Washington Township, Harrison County, Missouri in 1900. The census reports shows that in 1910 they had moved to East Union, Worth County, Missouri. The couple has a foster child
George D. Cummins living with them. Sometime between 1910 and 1919 the couple moved to Douglas County, Nebraska where William A. Poe passed away on November 14, 1919. William was laid to rest in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. The only child the couple had was the foster son George D Cummins.

After William's passing Lucinda remained in Nebraska where she married Andrew Dempster Benedict in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska in 1920, this union ended in divorce in 1924, and she then married Thomas Olson in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States 1924. This union ended and she secretly remarried her second husband Andrew Dempster Benedict in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska in 1933, however this marriage wasn't known until the day of her death in 1934.
