Jonothan Burwell (Jiggs) Allen, 69, resident of the Dexter community for 22 years, died Thursday night in a local hospital following an illness of four weeks.

Mr. Allen came to Dexter from Iowa and has been engaged in farming. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Dexter.

Survivors include his widow, three sons, Lawrence, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Loring W., of Seattle, Wash., Clarence B., of Dexter, a brother, Dan Allen of Anselmo, Nebr., and two grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. The Grant Funeral Home is in charge.

Johnathan Burwell Allen, son of Johnathan and Mariah Allen, was born June 24, 1869 at Knoxville, Ia., and passed away in Mercy hospital, Arkansas City, Kas., Oct. 30, 1941 at the age of 73 years, following an illness of four weeks.

He was united in marriage to Miss Edna Rosolla Lawrence of Peoria, Ia., on Feb. 18, 1896, at Oskaloosa, Ia. Three sons were born to this union, all of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Allen lived in Iowa several years and he was employed by the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway. They came to Cowley county, Kansas in 1919 where they located on a farm in the Vinton neighborhood, 17 miles northeast of Arkansas City, where he was familarly known as "Jiggs". Mr. Allen was a member of the Masonic lodge, holding his membership at Marion, Ia., No. 6, until he transfered to the Dexter Lodge No. 156, in 1939.

His father and mother and two brothers preceded him in death many years ago. He was proud of his lineage and often told his boys that their great grandmother was a Burwell of Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Edna, three sons; Lawrence, residing in Salt Lake City, Utah; Loring, located at Seattle, Wash.; and Clarence at home, one brother, Dan, living at Anselmo, Nebr., and two grandchildren, Billie and Patsy, who were dear to him.
