Kevin Burney "Boots" Haynes, 63, of Athens, passed away Monday July 4, 2011 at his home.

He was born December 30, 1947 in New London, CT. the son of James Burney and Patricia K. (Glynn) Haynes who both have preceded him in death. He married Nancy Jean Crawford.

Boots spent most of his life in Springfield and Athens. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1966 and attended Parsons College, Lincoln College and Illinois Business College. He worked 21 years for C.I.P.S. and the last 10 years with A.T.&T.

He was an avid and award winning photographer and was actively involved in model railroading, Telecom Pioneers of America and the Knights of Columbus. Boots first love was sailing. He was a member of the Island Bay Yacht Club since 1957 and sailed competitively for years and served on the IBYC Race Committee from 1980 to present.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean (Crawford) of Athens; children, Holly Anne Haynes of North Carolina and Marc Andrew Haynes of Minnesota; a brother, J. Keith Haynes (Tracy M. Cunningham) of St. Louis; a niece, Megan Younkin (Matt) and great niece Lucy Jean Younkin both of Denver, CO., several cousins and a long list of friends.

Friends may call Friday July 8, 2011 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel from 4:00 PM until the time of memorial services at 7:00 PM. with Rev. James Palakudy officiating.
