Ellen Cutright Newman, 81, a resident of 188 New Market Reservoir Road, New Market, Va., departed this life Sunday, July 25, 2004, at her home.
She was born Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1923, at Adolph, the daughter of the late Jared and Maude Bowyer Cutright.
Mrs. Newman was twice married. Her first husband, Albert T. Finnell, preceded her in death in September 1976. Her second husband, W. Selwyn Newman, survives.
Also surviving are one son, A. Thomas Finnell Jr. of McLean, Va.; two daughters, Cheryl Papierniak of Winchester, Va., and Jane Johnston of Melrude, Minn.; one stepson, Wallace S. Newman Jr. of Dinwiddie, Va.; two stepdaughters, Marianne Gearhart of Centreville, Va., and Barbara Ann Garrison of Warrenton, Va.; one sister, Juanita Weese and husband, Harry, of Elkins; three brothers, Wren "Buck" Cutright and Luther W. Cutright, both of Elkins, and Paul G. Cutright of Bradford, Pa.; nine grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She retired from the Bureau of Radiological Health in Rockville, Md., where she served as executive secretary.
She attended First United Methodist Church of Broadway, Va.
The family will receive friends at the Theis Funeral Chapel at New Market, Va., today from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ed Shepherd will officiate. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins will conduct graveside services at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Broadway, 13902 Timber Way, Broadway, Va. 22815. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the local arrangements for Ellen Cutright Newman.
