Chester (Chet) Amend, 85, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Born in Tulsa to Clayton and Hazel Amend. The family later resided in McAlester, Enid and Oklahoma City. A graduate of Classen High School, he played sax in the Sooner Jazz Band, then off to WWII with the US Navy at Hawaii and on a Sub- tender in the Pacific.

He returned to graduate from Oklahoma City University, 1950. A leader on campus, he was president of his fraternity, Phi Chi Phi, Blue Key, Student Council, Publications, etc. On June 1, 1951, he married Alyce West in Oklahoma City and began a life career with Magnolia Petroleum, (aka Mobil Oil Corporation) in Wholesale-Retail Credit in Shreveport, Alexandria, LA, Dallas, Chicago, and Valley Forge, PA, retiring in 1984. He then began a 2, retiring again in 2006.

Chet was always ready to give of himself, i.e. President of Jaycees in Alexandria, a founding member and Elder at Jackson Street Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, and later as a founding member and Building Chairman at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, Richardson, TX. He was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church since his remarriage to Alyce in July, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Alyce; daughter, Susan Ortega and husband, Andrew, San Antonio TX; a son, Robert Amend and wife, Susanne, Bretten, Germany; nine grandchildren: Danielle, Karlie, Drew, Travis and Zoe Ortega, San Antonio; Charis, Eliane, Jeremy and Salome Amend, Bretten, Germany; brothers: Clayton Amend, Oklahoma City; Bill Amend and wife, Elaine, Edmond. A son, David Scott Amend, predeceased him in November 2010.

Services will be at 11 am on Monday, March 7, at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. Lunch will be served after the services in the Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the OK and ARK Chapter, Alzheimer's Association, Tulsa; or to the Oklahoma Veterans Center, Claremore, OK. Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home.
