HARLEM, GA – Reverend E. Al Gilliland, 88, husband of Doris Gilliland, entered into rest Tuesday, July 05, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Grove First Baptist, Grovetown, Ga., with the Reverend Bryant Neal officiating. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Augusta, Ga.
Rev. Gilliland was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late William Herman Gilliland and Ethel Flood Gilliland. He was an Army veteran having served in the Philippines as a Technical Sergeant and had been a teacher for Richmond County Board of Education. He was a retired minister having served in the ministry over 50 years including in Texas, the Ozark Mountains, Augusta, Ga., Grove First Baptist, Grovetown for 20 years and Bethel Baptist in Sardis for 12 years. He was a member of Camak Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife whom he married on January 22, 1943, Doris Gilliland; their son William David Gilliland and his wife Janis of Covington, Ga.; three grandchildren Dinicia (Delarn) Stephens, Newborn, Ga., Donnie ( Nicole) Gilliland, Covington, Ga., and Dave (Alycia) Gilliland of Colorado; three great-grandchildren Whitley Stephens, Tyelar Stephens and Kaylee Stephens.
