DEATH OF MRS. H. COLTON
A well-known resident of Braeside, Mrs. Hugh Colton, passed away on Sunday, Jan 25th, due to an attack of pneumonia. Several years ago deceased suffered a paralytic stroke which deprived her of speech, but the development of pneumonia occurred only a few weeks previous to her death. Deceased, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Eleanor Lindsay, was born sixty-six years ago in Fitzroy, being a daughter of the later Bernard Lindsay and Mary Quinn. About forty years ago she was married in Pakenham to Mr. Colton, the officiating clergyman being Rev. Fr. Lavin. Twenty-four years ago, with their family, Mr. and Mrs. Colton moved to Braeside and here deceased made many friends who were deeply grieved to learn of her demise. She was a valued member of the Braeside and Sand Point branch of the C.W.L. [Catholic Women's League] Remaining to mourn her death besides her sorrowing husband are five sons and three daughters, namely, James L. of South Bend, Ind.; Thomas J. of Moose Jaw; John B. of Ottawa; Peter C. and Clement C., at home; Mrs. G. H. Roy and Mrs. J. J. Larkin, Fitzroy Harbor; Miss Rose Colton, at home; surviving also are seven grandchildren, and one sister and two brothers, Miss Mary Bernard and Mr. John Bernard, Fitzroy Harbor, and Mr. Patrick Bernard, Manvel, N.D. The funeral was held on Wednesday morning, Jan. 28th, from her late residence, Braeside, to St. John Chrysostom church, and the remains were placed in the Catholic vault at Arnprior, until spring. Rev. Fr. Whelan chanted the requiem high mass and the pallbearers were four sons and two sons-in-law, namely, Messrs. James L., John B., Peter C. and Clement C. Colton, James Larkin and G. H. Roy. Floral offerings received were: wreaths, family, corporation of village of Braeside; pillow, Mrs. J. A. Gillies; sprays, Mr. and Mrs. R. Walker, Ottawa; Mrs. Ingrid Larsen. Telegrams of sympathy were received from Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Colton, Moose Jaw; Owen Colton, Calgary; Mrs. Jerry Horrigan, Cleveland. Letters of sympathy were received from: Mr. James Brownrigg, Ottawa; Rev. James Taylor, Eganville; Mr. and Mrs. H. McGill and Miss Nellie Coburn, Carleton Place; Mrs. I. Larsen, Margaret R. Gillies; Owen Colton, Calgary; T. J. of Moose Jaw; Mrs. Jerry Horrigan, Cleveland; Mrs. James Taylor, Eganville; Felix Leidtke, Renfrew; Viola Liedtke, Toronto; Miss M. E. Hudson, teacher in S.S.
