A. Russell Dearden, 61, retired postal department employee, died of a lingering heart ailment at a local hospital Wednesday.

He was born March 31, 1895, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Chrichley Dearden. He served in the Army from 1917 to 1919, then went to work for the Post Office Department in Idaho Falls as substitute carrier Jan. 7, 1920.

He became a regular carrier in 1921, then transferred to clerk until 1938, when he was placed in charge of the postal savings system. In 1939, he was appointed clerk in charge and was named foreman in 1954. He retired in 1955. He was a member of the Civil Services board of examiners for 20 years.

He married Grace Summers Nov. 8, 1919. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as officer of the Postal Department Credit Union.

Surviving besides his widow is a son, K. R. Dearden, and two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Betty) Donnelly and Mrs. Armond (Pat) Robison, all of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Harold Eames.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Leslie and Golden Dearden of Idaho Falls; and one sister, Mrs. E. W. (Dell) Nuttall of Cokeville, Wyo.
