James E Macon died at his home here shortly after 12 o'clock Tuesday, from cancer of the throat with which he suffered some time.
He was born in Middleton, Tenn., May 5, 1868, and he was the first of family of nine children to die. With his parents he came to Springfield, Ill., in 1878, and in 1882 came to a farm near Assumption. He was twice married, the first time May 12, 1890. to C V Ross. Four children by this marriage survive. They are Florence Macon at home, Lee of Detroit, Mrs Sadie Scheer of Houston, Tex, and Mrs. Verna Vietz of Detroit.
On Oct. 20, 1901 Mr. Macon married Mary Jones, who with four children, also survive. These children are Harry and Edward in Detroit, and Martha and Elizabeth at home
Brothers and sisters surviving are M.W. Macon of Macon, Ill.,C.F. Macon of Washington, Ia., Harry Macon of Clinton, Mrs. A. P Conley of Decatur, Mrs Mary Daily of Minot. S.D., Mrs. Martha Curry, Springfield, Mrs. Sarah Darnell, Greenville, and Mrs. Emma Long, Milwaukee.
Mr. Macon was a member of the Masonic lodge and of the Presbyterian church.
The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian church at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev K. B. Delong. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
