Vester Tucker, 76 died Mon. night 11 Jul 1983 at T.J. Sampson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Mrs. Tucker suffered an apparent heart attack at her home Sat. and had been hospitalized since then. Mrs. Tucker retired at the end of 1975 after serving for 32 years as deputy circuit court clerk in Green Co. During that time she served with her husband, Rhea Tucker, who was Circuit Court Clerk from 1946 through 1975.

The Tuckers distinguished themselves throughout legal and government official circles in Ky. "It was a well known fact that the office of the circuit court clerk in Green Co. was one of the finest in the state," says Boyce Hudson who for several of the corresponding years was in the courthouse as County Judge. "They kept the records in perfect order. I don't see how anyone could have been a better person than she was. I never saw her out of patience with anyone or anything."

For her husband, Rhea, Vester was more than wife, companion, and deputy; she was eyes for the man who has been blind since a childhood accident. "They were a joy to work with and an honor to consider as part of the public servants and leaders of our county," Hudson continued. Mrs. Tucker maintained there was no discord or conflict in their marriage/job relationship. Shortly before their retirement, the woman, whose sense of humor was well known commented, "He's the clerk, I'm his deputy. I do what he tells me to do in the office. When we get home I do my share of the bossing."

In addition to the reputation the Tuckers earned for their most efficient office, especially Mrs. Tucker is credited with doing a superior job of indexing many of the records within the jurisdiction of the circuit court clerk's office. "It proved to be very helpful to the public as well as to officials needing to use the records," says Marie Bloyd Pierce, who as former county court clerk was a co-worker with the Tuckers at the courthouse.

"Particularly people interested in genealogical research will always be grateful for the work Vester did so carefully and patiently. She performed a great service for all of us by what she did for Rhea and with Rhea." Mrs. Tucker was also recognized in this area as a talented artist. For many years she has painted china and her work has frequently been considered as "exquisite" by other artists.
