Sudden Death

While Mr. and Mrs. Colburn were out on the creek Sunday morning, the former apparently in perfect health, became suddenly attacked with pains through the back, shoulders and arms. A little later the pain grew intense and together they hurried home, Mr. Colburn running a part of the way. Reaching home he felt somewhat better for a short lapse of time but a little later was seized with a second attack and in the course of a short time expired.

Amzy B. Colburn was born in Norfolk, Va., Jan. 23rd, 1857 and departed this life Nov. 7, 1909 making his age 52 years 10 months and 14 days. While very young his parents moved to Collins Center, Erie county, near Buffalo, N. Y., where he resided until the early seventies. Later he came to Colorado, where he has since resided.

Deceased was a resident of Rosita and Silver Cliff in the early days, later spending some years in the southwestern part of the state and had resided in Westcliffe about ten years. He had served as a member of our town council and at the time of death held the offices of justice of the peace and notary public, and was preparing himself for the bar.

Mr. Colburn was regarded by all as an honest, conscientious man. Besides his widow, he leaves three sisters residing in Erie county, N. Y. Mrs. Don Cooper at Springville and Mrs. Emma Colburn Bruce and Miss Carrie Colburn of Collins Center, all of whom have the sympathy of this community in their hour of deep sorrow.

The funeral, at which the members of the city council were pall bearers, was held at the Presbyterian Church here Tuesday forenoon, Rev. Wolever officiating, and the interment took place in Silver Cliff Cemetery.
