Ira Harris Green, Sr., passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at his home in Houston. He was 75.

He recently had been a recipient of a lung transplant in 2008 as a result of his bout with pulmonary fibrosis.

He served sixteen months in Korea where he proudly served in the 24th Infantry Division and later in the 1st Cavalry Division.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Margaret Kathryn Green.

IRA HARRIS GREEN, SR., beloved husband, father, grandfather, CEO, volunteer, good Christian and great friend to many passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of Monday, the 23rd of November 2009, at his home in Houston. He was 75.

He recently had been a recipient of a lung transplant in 2008 as a result of his bout with pulmonary fibrosis. He never complained about his disease and was a tough-minded and model patient throughout his recovery process.

He had a wonderful and very full life, most of it spent with his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Margaret, as well as his numerous children and grandchildren.Ira was born on the 27th of April 1934, to Edward Hart Green, Jr. and Mary Willins Green in the Borough of Manhattan, New York City.

He spent his childhood primarily in Easton, Pennsylvania and St. Louis, Missouri, graduating from Easton High School in 1952.

In 1956, he graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania with a degree in Government. He also served as President of the Zeta Psi Fraternity and was a member of the ROTC.

Immediately following college, he served in the United States Army. He was stationed initially in Fort Benning, Georgia, and spent sixteen months in Korea where he proudly served in the 24th Infantry Division and later in the 1st Cavalry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

Following the military, he was hired by the First National Bank in St. Louis, where he served in various capacities. He left the bank in 1971 as a Vice President to make his big move to Texas where he joined First City National Bank in Houston to open up their Bond Department. The Bond Department evolved into the Investment Division and he left as an Executive Vice President of First City Bancorporation of Texas in 1984 to join the bond dealer, Westcap Corporation, as Chairman and CEO. After ten successful years of service, he retired from Westcap in 1994.

He held various positions on numerous municipal finance industry associations, including President of the Dealer Bank Association and Chairman of the Municipal Advisory Council of Texas. He was a member of Lakeside Country Club, The Houston Club, and Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. He volunteered for numerous organizations involving his children over the years including the Cub Scouts (he was an Eagle Scout), athletic booster clubs and in roles, along with his wife, as Co-President of several PTA's.

He most recently served on the board and as President of the Memorial Assistance Ministries.

Ira married Margaret Kathryn Custis in 1960 and is survived by her and their four children and 10 grandchildren; Ira H. Green, Jr. and his wife Susie, their children, Harris, Thomas and Cole, all of Houston; Christopher T. Green and his wife Ann, their children, Caroline, Zachary and Garrett, all of Houston; Kathryn Green Moore and her husband Patrick, their children, Custis and Thompson, all of Plano; and Michael W. Green and his wife Stephanie, their children, William and Abby (and one on the way), all of Houston. He is also survived by his brother Edward Hart Green III and his wife Sue of Houston; his sister-in-law Mary Custis Hart and her husband Jerome of Manchester, Vermont; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock this afternoon, Monday, the 30th of November, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive in Houston, where Dr. David Peterson will officiate.Immediately following the memorial service, all are invited to join the family in a reception to be held at a venue to be announced.In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that donations in memory of Ira H.
