Michael Francis Patrick Selgrath, 63, of Middletown and a native of Philadelphia, passed away suddenly July 12, 2011. Beloved husband of Sophia (Mullin), devoted father to Stephanie Hodges (Travis), Shauna McAuliffe (Thomas), and Samantha. Proud Grandfather of; Sean Michael Francis and Reagan Hodges, and Madeline McAuliffe. Predeceased by; parents Louis F. and Harriett ( Mehl), brother Francis X. Selgrath. Survived by brothers and sisters Louis F Jr., Harriett Welmhold, Gregory F., and Mary Lou Smart. Godchildren; Gregory F. Jr. and Dianna, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, attended St Joseph's University and a graduate of Northwestern University and a member of the United States Marine Corps.
Lt. Selgrath enlisted in the PA State Police, on January 25, 1973, after graduating from the academy in Hershey, he was assigned to Troop J, in Embreeville, until 1981, promoted to Corporal in 1984, Sergeant in 1985 and Lt., in 1988. During his career he was assigned to troop P, in Dushore, the bureau of Technical Services at Department Headquarters and from 1988 to 2008, he had been assigned to the bureau of Training and Education at the academy in Hershey, as Commander of Basic Training, where he oversaw classes 72-125.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 16th, at 10:30 a.m., in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Interment with honors will be in the Hershey Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Friday, July 15th, in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Route 422 & Lucy Avenue, Hershey.
