My birth father's mom. My darling grandmother left this world to be with Jesus on Feb. 7, 1962 She was 75 years old. Grandma passed away from leukemia.

My grandma was very loving and had a great sense of humor. She loved to play jokes on people. Grandma had fake snakes that jumped out of a can and all kinds of things. She was full of laughter, fun, and joy, her eyes sparkled with love.

She and grandpa had my sister Carla, my brothers' Carl, Arthur, and me over every weekend. My grandma would place all kinds of blankets on the floor beside her and grandpa's bed. We felt like we had gone to heaven. There on the floor with great joy the 4 of us children would sleep on weekends.

Grandma used to put me on her legs and bounce them up and down like a horsey ride. She would rock me in her rocking chair and brush my hair and tell me all about Jesus. My grandma liked to sit outside and watch us play. Her smile made me feel so good, she would open her arms and I would run into them. My grandma had a dog she called Kippy Do and I learned at a young age to love animals. Kippy Do became old and blind but he still enjoyed life. I still think of him today.

I often watched grandma make and can jelly and other things. Grandma always had wonderful meals for us to eat. We loved going to be with our grandparents. We had love, a warm bed, great food, and the feeling of being wanted. That was something our birth mother Lila never did for us.

Our birth mother told us never to get dirty so our beatings would not be known. Well one day I did get dirty and grandma said she would give me a bath. My heart froze with fear because I recently had been beaten by my birth mother. Open sores and scars were on my back. I tried to tell her I was old enough to do it alone. Let me tell you when she looked at my back she let out screams. My grandfather heard her outside and came running breakneck speed.

Grandma called the police and they promised me if I told them who did it they would never let it happen to me again. My sister Carla Mae had huge eyes she was afraid we would get beat if I told on our birth mother. I finally told the police my mother did it. They took us away to a home for unwanted children that very day.

I later found out Grandma wanted to keep us but could not because she was so ill. She had leukemia and knew she did not have much time to live. It was during a school day that my cousin told me my grandma had died. I was so hurt and outraged I beat her up in the hall. Teachers had to pull me off from her because I could not stop.

My precious mom and dad who later adopted me called my birth father and asked him if she had passed away. He said yes and he told them when the funeral would be. I heard mom and dad talking and one did not want me to go for fear it would be to much for me. The other said that little girl loves her grandmother more than anyone in this world. She will hate you for the rest of her life if you don't let her go.

So I went to grandma's funeral with my birth father, his 2 sisters, & his brother Ken and Ken's wife Marcile. I kept thinking she would get up any minute but my heart knew better. I just wanted to see that smile and have her open her arms to hug me. My dad lifted me up so I could kiss her one last time.

For many years until I was 13 I had a dream of grandma every night. I would see my grandma standing there smiling and her arms open wide. I would run to her and just as I reached her she would disappear in my dream. I woke up crying every night.

After I was grown I found one of my brothers and my sister. Then I went and saw my grandma's daughter my aunt Anna first. After that I was reunited with my birth father, then the rest of the family. My precious adopted mom took me to see my grandma's neighbor who knew me as a child. She cried and said my grandma would be so proud of me and we stood there hugging and crying.

Oh Grandma I miss you and still love you with all my heart. Thank you for being a wonderful grandmother and for loving me. If not for you, I might have never learned to love. I will see you in Heaven my precious grandma. Loving you always, Your Granddaughter, Ann
