Harold J. Kiister, 76, of rural Oswego, died at 11:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Oswego Hospital. He was born September 5, 1934 in St. Paul, Kansas, to Otto and Susie (Brainard) Kiister. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul where he graduated from St. Paul High School and later earned an Associate degree from Neosho County Community College in Chanute. For a time, he worked at Ewen Motors and Hy-Grade Construction before joining the United States Army. While serving his country he was stationed in Berlin, Germany, where he met and married Renate Rux. They later divorced. Upon his honorable discharge as a disabled veteran, he returned to St. Paul where he worked at Hy-Grade Construction. In 1986, he began his own auto mechanic business and also farmed five miles west of Oswego. He was a member of the Bartlett Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion in Parsons, American Model Airplane Association and Senior Citizens Bowling League in Parsons. He especially enjoyed nature, being outdoors, flying model airplanes, and bowling. He and Goldie (Reed) Addis were married December 23, 1986, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: Three Sons – Lonie Addis and wife, Crystal Oswego, KS Donie Addis Oswego, KS Pernell Addis and wife, Jeanie Belmont, CA One Daughter – Edie (Addis) Russell and husband, Jerry Chetopa, KS Seven Grandchildren Karmel Puzzuoli, Battle Creek,MI., Rye Addis and wife Ke'olani, Oronogo,Mo, Amber Hayslip and husband Michael, Pittsburg,Ks., Blaire Seigel and husband Josh, Carl Junction, MO,. Amy Addis, Sedan, Ks., Jerad Russell, Kansas City, MO., Markle Addis, Belmont, Ca. Five Great-Grandchildren Stella & A.J. Puzzuoli, Kaitlin & Kale Hayslip and Alexis Seigel One Sister – Millie Johnson of St. Paul, KS He was preceded in death by one brother, Amel, one sister, Beulah Kueffler, one granddaughter, Jenny, in 1997, and one great-grandson, Boyce, in 1996. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Bartlett Christian Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery near St. Paul.
