J. George Kuemmet, 84, of 712 Humboldt Ave., died early this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been hospitalized for the past week.
He had been in good health until two weeks ago.
Born in the Town of Lima April 5, 1878, a son of the late John and Josephine Kuemmet, he attended St. George Parochial School and was married at St. George Church May 5, 1903, to Miss Mary Ann Rammer.
The couple owned and operated a farm on Highway 141 south of Sheboygan until about 15 years ago.
For the past five years they have been living in Sheboygan. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1953.
Mr. Kuemmet was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Peter Claver Church , an honorary life member of the Our Lady of the Rosary Council No. 722, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Apostolate of Suffering.
Surviving are his wife; a son, John, on the home farm; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Josephine) Ries, Sheboygan, Mrs. Hildegarde Hesslink, Skokie, Ill., and Mrs. Eugene (Georgiana) Hertel, Black River; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Broehl, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Mary Henrich, Somonauk, Ill.; and one half-sister, Miss Agnes Kuemmet, Sheboygan. A daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ramm Funeral Home followed by a requiem high Mass at St. Peter Claver Church, The Rev. Robert M. Hoeller will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Vigils will be held Sunday evening by the Holy Name Society at 7 p.m., Knights of Columbus at 7:15 p.m. and the St. Luke the Evangelist unit of the Good Samaritan Guild at 7:30 p.m.
