James Allen Miles SCRANTON - Mr. James Allen Miles, 92, husband of Gladys Witherington Miles, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, in McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. John's Free Will Baptist Church in Pamplico, SC. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service in the church.

Mr. Miles was born October 31, 1918, in Florence County, a son of the late Cleland Lurie and Lennie Poston Miles. He was a retired mechanic from Godwin International and Sparrow-Fair Tractor Company. He was a devoted Christian and oldest member of St. John's Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Miles was a US Army Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre. He served over 180 days on the front line enduring the battle of the bulge and later served under the command of General George Patton. He was awarded numerous medals including the EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars for his military service.

Surviving are his wife: Gladys Witherington Miles of Scranton, one son, Jimmy E. Miles and his wife, Anne of Coward; one daughter, Brenda M. Daniels and her husband, Lewis of Scranton; grand-daughters, Renee M. Mitchell and her husband, Lloyd of Florence, Kimberly Isgett of Coward; grandsons, Jason A. Miles and his wife Jennifer, of Coward, James Lewis Daniels and Jonathan Lee Daniels of Scranton; two brothers, Kenneth Miles and his wife Joyce, of Scranton and J.W. Miles and his wife Betty of Phoenix, Arizona; and seven great grandsons.

He was predeceased by a son, Charles Allen Miles; three sisters, Pearl M. Hatchell, Julie M. Shokes and Doris M. Duke; and four brothers, Carlton Miles, Will R. "Buddy" Miles, Laverne Miles and Colonel Lee Miles.

The family would especially like to express their appreciation and thanks to Dr. David Rodriguez, Dr. Mark Fox and the staff of McLeod Hospice House for their care and concern for Mr. Miles and his family during this time.
