Private, Company A, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Wounded on February 25, 1863, by Mosby's guerrillas near Fairfax, Virginia. Shot through the left arm, the ball entering his side. Treated at St. Aloysius General Hospital in the District of Columbia and returned to the regiment on May 22, 1863. Captured at Hanover, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1863. Reopened wound during forced march in captivity. He was paroled on West Chester, Pennsylvania , where he contracted Typhoid Fever. We went home to Aleppo Township, Pennsylvania to recuperate, where he died on July 15, 1863. Also listed as Hineman.

Mother's pension filed on April 5, 1881, application number 281,889, certificate 243,384. Father's pension also filed, application 549,718.
