Reva L. "Uncle Doc" Clancy/Blessing of Pittsboro died Monday in Danville. She was 87.
Mrs. Clancy/Blessing was a leap year baby, born Feb. 29, 1920, in Pittsboro to Daniel and Vena (Stoner) Leonard. She was preceded in death by husbands John L. Clancy, who died in 1987, and Charles Blessing, who died in 2005.
She graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1938 and from Indiana Teachers College in 1942. She taught in Monticello from 1942-45, then taught GI's while stationed in Germany after the war, and then taught in the Northwest Hendricks Schools until her retirement in May of 1985.
Mrs. Clancy/Blessing started the first kindergarten in Pittsboro Christian Church.
She was a member of Pittsboro Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, and Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a sister, Nellie Blevins of Pittsboro; nieces Jan Getz of Chicago and Kathy Gentry of Pittsboro; a foster daughter, Connie Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; great-nephews Nick Zollner of Brownsburg, Dan Zollner of Pittsboro, Lee Zollner of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Matthew Gentry of Pittsboro; four great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at David A. Hall Mortuary, 220 N. Maple St., Pittsboro, with the Rev. Don Campbell officiating. Interment will be at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Lizton.
Calling at the mortuary is from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
