Hazel E. Gotham

Hazel E. Gotham, 91, Our House, Plover, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rebecca Niese officiating. Burial will take place at Floral Hill Cemetery in New London.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the services.

A memorial will be established in her name for educational purposes.

Mrs. Gotham was born April 8, 1912, in New London, a daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Ziemer) Bleck. She lived and attended schools in New London until she went to college.

She attended North Central Teachers College in Naperville, Ill., and Central State Teachers College (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) in Stevens Point, where she graduated with a degree in kindergarten and elementary education.

She taught at Elmhurst, Ill., and Grant School in Stevens Point. She also taught at the campus school at UW-SP where she met Dr. Raymond Gotham.

They were married December 22, 1948 in New London and lived their entire married life in Park Ridge and Stevens Point. He died in 1974.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Omega Mu Chi and University Wives.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Jean Bleck, New London; and six nieces and nephews, including Ann (Gary) Glock, Plover, and Jane (Gary) Hauboldt, Mosinee.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Bleck, and two sisters, Vera Mae Kjer and Lucy Esterl.
