D.C. Baker, son of Stephen C. and Huldah E. Baker, was born on a farm near Fairfield, Lennewe county, Michigan, July 29, 1869. He
moved with his parents to the town of Fairfield at the age of fourteen, where he lived for two years. The family then moved back to the farm.

On Dec. 23, 1891, he was married to Miss Luella Welsh, at Lyons, Ohio. They lived on a farm in Ohio until Feb. 1893, when, through the advice of his uncle, S.J. Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Baker came to Sutherland which became their future permanent home.

On Sunday, March 8, he was taken seriously ill and passed away Tuesday evening, March 10, 1936, at 7.00 o'clock.

Of immediate relatives, Mr. Baker leaves his wife, daughter Helen (Mrs. Noel Freeman, of Toledo, Ohio) two sisters: Mrs. Charlotte Baker, of Everett, Washington, and Mrs. Hattie Drew, of Toledo, Ohio.

His parents, four brothers and four sisters had passed on before. Mr. Baker was a man of independent spirit, firm in his stand for principles which he considered proper and right. He was industrious, frugal, honest in all dealings. He was a good citizen, a tried and trusted neighbor. He was a devoted husband and a fond father. He will be missed in a large circle.
