Waddy was a son of Samuel T. and Nancy C. (Pesnell) Thompson of Cleburne County, Alabama.

According to his WWI Draft Registration Card, he signed his name Williamson, rather than William, but the family has always known his first name to be William. However, he always went by his middle name, Waddy. Also according to this draft card, which is shown in the "pictures" for this memorial, his actual birthdate was 29 Mar 1880, rather than 1881 as inscribed on his tombstone. He was also listed in the 1880 US Census as age two months with a Mar 1880 date of birth.

Waddy married Ada Lodessa Cheatwood on 25 Oct 1900, in Cleburne County, Alabama. She was the only daughter of Robert Thompson "Thomps" M. Cheatwood and Nancy Malinda (Hogan) Cheatwood.

"She & Waddy had four sons, two of which died in infancy, Elbert Ewell, Homer Franklin, Asa, and Neal. Asa and Neal did not have middle names."
Written by Sarah Joyce Gibbs Johnson. Edited by his great-granddaughter, Lauren.

Waddy died at Polk County Hospital in Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia.
