"Bud" was born April 19, 1953 a son of Vangie Paul Summers and the late Dewey Johnson Summers Sr.
He was a graduate of Fort Johnson High School and the Baptist College in Charleston. Bud received his Masters Degree in Divinity from Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and then became the Minister of Education at Heritage Baptist Church and the Principal of Heritage Christian School in Huntsville, AL - positions he held for over seventeen years.
In 1996 he relocated to Walterboro with his family and became the Minister of Education at First Baptist Church of Walterboro.
"Bud" was active in the life of the church and later became responsible for the Weekday Early Education Ministry through which he touched the lives of many children throughout the community. He was involved in the Senior Adult Ministry and was also a youth Sunday School Teacher. Bud loved his family and his church and his compassion and caring personality showed everyone the true nature of a Christian life.
In addition to his wife of Walterboro and his mother of Charleston, he leaves behind a daughter, Sara Elizabeth Fox and her husband Brent of Walterboro; two sons, Justin Lee Summers and Joshua Alan Summers, both of Walterboro; two sisters, Jane Spears and husband Phil of Summerville and Shannon Rourk and husband Freddie of Charleston as well as his beloved grandson Trystan B. Fox.
Funeral services will be held July 19, 2011 at 11:00 in First Baptist Church of Walterboro. Committal services will be held privately at a later date.
