Memorial services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. July 22, 2011, at the Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, Iowa, with Chaplain/Celebrant Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating. Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Fern "Maxine" Seifert, daughter of John A. and Ethel J. (Sokol) Edwards, was born January 1, 1920, on a farm near Wyoming, Iowa. She lived her youth and received her education in Monmouth, graduating valedictorian of her class of 1937. She went on and graduated from the American Institute of Commerce, Davenport. On March 24, 1940, she married Lester R. Seifert and made their home in Davenport. In 1947, they moved to Linn Grove, where they purchased the Farmer's Supply Company, which they continued to operate until 1972. In 1973, they moved to West Okoboji Harbor. In 1980, they began spending the winters in Sun City West, Ariz., and the summers in the Great Lakes area. In 1994, after the loss of her husband, Lester, Maxine moved full time to Sun City West until 2003 when she moved to Vista, Calif., to be near her daughter, Carolyn Ekstrom. Maxine was a 50+ year Eastern Star Member and a member of Women of the Moose, Spencer.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester, and sister, Wilma I. Andresen.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and husband, Kenneth Ekstrom of Vista, Calif.; granddaughter, Nicole (Angelo) Valdez; and great-grandchildren, Allyson Valdez and Noah Valdez of San Diego, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Gladys Seifert of Toronto; plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
