Jefferson Elisha Bumgarner was a son of Thomas Bumgarner and Rachel Regina Bolick Bumgarner of Caldwell Co., NC. He was married on July 15, 1866 in Caldwell Co., NC to Martha R. Mitcham, a daughter of Banks Mitcham 1807 +- Lincoln Co., NC - ?? and Susannah Wise Mitcham 1812 Cleveland Co., NC - 1878 Rutherford Co., NC. They made their home in Lovelady Township, Caldwell Co., NC. They were parents of the following children:
1. Nathaniel Pinckney Bumgarner 1866 - 1939
2. Hulda Caroline Bumgarner 1/1870 - 1943;
3. John Henry Bumgarner 1872 - 1942
4. Rosie Alice Bumgarner 1878 - 1958
5. Fannie M. Bumgarner 4/1866 - 1961; and
three other children who did not survive childhood.
Note: The stone at Jefferson Bumgarner's grave is missing.
Directions to cemetery: From Lenoir, NC, take Hwy. 321 South to intersection at Winn Dixie Store & Valley Chevrolet. Turn left; turn left onto Dudley Shoals Rd.; go about 2 miles to Lovelady Baptist Church; turn left; follow the dirt road to top of hill and turn right to a beige and white mobile home; turn right; go short distance and park at the fork in road; take the left fork on foot; for a short distance to the cemetery. It is well kept by senior citizens in the area.
