Her early life was divided between a farm in Plainfield and a home in Lebanon.Being a fine musician she taught music from her sixteenth year. At the time of
Her death she was an Honored member of the Domestic Science Club of the city of Manhattan and for years pervious was the center of a large and admiring circle
of friends. In 1860 she united with the Baptist church in Chester, VT. And from that time her brilliant social powers, her musical talent, her sympathetic nature and generous heart were devoted to the cause she loved and to cheering and ennobling the lives of those with
whom she mingled. Although Mr. E. W. Westgate and Miss J. Porter were born in the same town they never met until a year before they married in 1861. And from there first
meeting in 1860 until Mrs. Westgate's death not a week passed without their seeing or hearing from one another.
