Long-time Marin resident Roberta (Bambi) Brand Esberg, died at home in San Anselmo on July 8 following a six month battle with cancer and Cushing's disease. The daughter of Robin and Marjorie Brand, Bambi was born at San Francisco Children's Hospital in 1952, moving to Corte Madera with her Mother in 1959. She graduated from Marin Country Day School in 1966 and Redwood High in 1970, then attended College of Marin prior to attending and graduating from U.C. Berkeley.

Bambi made Marin her home for most of her adult life, marrying County native Milton Guy Esberg whom she had known since they attended the fifth grade together. The couple, who celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary last September, lived in San Anselmo where they raised their two children, Nicholas Robin and Genoa Isobel Esberg, both of whom attended Wade Thomas Elementary School, White Hill Middle School and Sir Francis Drake High.

Bambi was enamored of the Marin outdoors and felt both love and compassion for all living things. She could be seen escorting groups of mentally-challenged seniors through the County's parks and woodlands, or hiking Marin trails accompanied by dogs of every shape and size. In addition to her husband and children, Bambi is survived by her sisters Suzanne Svendsen and Barbara Ford -- of Alameda CA and Amherst, MA, respectively, and brother Christopher Cole of San Diego.

In lieu of sending flowers, Bambi had asked that anyone wishing to remember her, may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society or the Marin Humane Society
