Death has removed one of our oldest inhabitants. Mrs. Maria Rawson, the mother of H. B, and Angelo Rawson, died at her residence in Grafton on the 9th of January, 1878. Mrs. Rawson was born at Pittsfield, Mass., Sept. 2nd, 1796, and removed to Grafton in March 1818. She was the first woman ever married in Grafton Township, having been married to Mr. Grindel Rawson on Nov. 5h, 1818. On the 22nd of May 1876, she was left a widow by the death of Mr. Rawson. Mr. Grindel Rawson built the first house ever built on the site of the present village of Grafton. Mrs. Rawson's funeral took place on Sunday, January 13th. Mr. Dunbar of Brunswick, wonducted the services at the house, and the remains were taken to Belden for interment.
