Served in the Revolutionary War under Captain Covenhaven, 1st Regiment Monmouth County Militia in NJ, enlisting 11 February 1778 and 19 August 1780. Married about 1780 to Sarah; father of 9 children; son of Joseph Applegate and Catherine Sarah Williams. Henry was a pioneer from New England and was illiterate. He was a farmer and grocer. Henry donated land for a school west of Neeb on Rapid Run in School District 5 Delhi Hills Township. He attended Judge Symmes funeral in the city, after which the mourners traveled by keelboat to North Bend with his body.
