Martin "Marty" Kane passed away peacefully on July 11, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Kane was 64 years old. Born in Clinton, IA, on Dec. 24, 1946, Mr. Kane spent much of his life in Iowa and Wisconsin and earned his college degree from Upper Iowa University. He worked for many years in newspaper publishing and later on in the financial services industry. Having lived much of his life in the Midwest, Mr. Kane's dream was to one day live in a sunnier climate, near the ocean. This was a dream he realized when he moved to the coastal community of Southport, NC, in 1999, to take a position as a financial advisor with Edward Jones. Mr. Kane is survived by his high school sweetheart and adoring wife of 43 years, Margaret; his loving daughters, Kathleen Kane Rolfs of Tallahassee, FL (husband, David; and children, Joshua and Anna), and Patricia Kane Wright of Delavan, WI (husband, Jesse; and children, Jack and Kyle); sister, Jackie Kane (niece, Colleen Kelly [son, Ryan Drews]), all of Whitefish Bay, WI; a very special sister-in-law, Marie Plamann (husband, Terry and nephews, Andy [wife, Erin, son, Oliver] and Tony) of Appleton, WI; as well as many dear friends in Wisconsin and North Carolina. Known to his grandchildren as "Papa at the Beach," Mr. Kane was completely devoted to his family and remained passionate about his work even up until just shortly before his death. Mr. Kane's chief pleasure came from serving others. He told his family he had no plans to retire from his work or participation in the various community organizations he was involved in. Mr. Kane was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a son, Patrick Vincent Kane.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, July 22 at ST. ANDREW'S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN DELAVAN, WI, with a visitation preceding Mass beginning at noon, and burial in the St. Andrew's Parish Cemetery. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Hospice for the loving care received during the final weeks of Mr. Kane's life. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401. MONROE FUNERAL HOME in DELAVAN is assisting the family. Janesville Gazette July 19, 2011.
