Dirk K. Newhoff, 69, of Hazelton, Iowa passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa.

Dirk was born on July 6, 1940, the son of Dale and Ramona (Perkins) Newhoff in Newman Grove, Nebraska. He went to an old country school in Nebraska and then entered the US Army at the age of 17. On May 26, 1963, he was united in marriage to Alma Hurt in Kansas. Alma passed away on December 21, 2000. Dirk worked at John Deere in Waterloo for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He then did odd jobs and did hobby farming with his draft horses. On February 14, 2002, he was united in marriage to Roxanne Miller in Galena, Illinois. Dirk enjoyed his draft horses, traveling and playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife, Roxanne Newhoff of Hazelton, Iowa; 6 children, Linda (Jim) Smith Brighton, Colorado, Rick (Becky) Ensign of Nashua, Iowa, Cris (Steven) Brase of Plainfield, Iowa, Randy (Libby) Ensign of Alliance, Nebraska, Dirk "Butch" (Janice) Newhoff Jr. of Bayard, Nebraska, and Jolene (David) Wehling of Readlyn, Iowa; two step children, David (Ashley) Marvets of Tripoli, Iowa and Heather Marvets of Sumner, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 4 sisters, Jaceil (George Harrington) Mostek of Waterloo, Iowa, Judy (Jack) Larson of Orange, California, Joyce Woolems of Bourbanais, Illinois and Jane Piercy of Lovettsville, Virginia; 3 brothers, Darlee "Rudy" (Jackie) Newhoff of Waterloo, Iowa, Dennis (Vicki) Newhoff of Golden, Colorado and Dan Newhoff of Lovettsville,, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma, his parents, a daughter, Jeanine Crooks and a grandson, Timthy Brase; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Janon Roussel and by a brother, Kenny Newhoff.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:30 pm at the Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa. The family will greet family and friends an hour prior to the memorial service at the Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa. There will be no visitation; Dirk's body has been cremated. The family request that memorials be directed to the family
