For the past three years, Ray had lived in Belleair Bluffs, Fla., and died peacefully, Sunday, July 3, 2005.

For 68 years, beginning as a teenager, Ray worked at the Catlow Theatre in Barrington, first in Vaudeville and then in our era of high tech movies as a projectionist, retiring at age 85. Before World War II, he was a relief mail carrier for the Barrington Post Office. Ray was an avid golfer until his 70s, a big fan of the Chicago Cubs, and all other sports. He enjoyed talking sports anytime, especially when having breakfast or lunch at one of Barrington's restaurants.

Ray is survived by his children, Cynthia (Charles) Caldwell of Clearwater, Fla. and Richard W. (Debra) of St. Charles, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Warren Jahnke of Vista, Calif.; a stepgrandchild; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Charlotte (nee Weaver); second wife, Beryl (nee Helwig); his parents, Charles and Martha; brothers, Art and Herman; and sister Dorothy.
