US Congressman, US Senator, US Diplomat. served in the United States Army Air Force in World War II. Elected to represent Colorado's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1961 to 1963. Also served as a Member of the Colorado State House of Representatives from 1957 to 1961, United States Senator from Colorado from 1963 to 1975, until he was defeated in 1974, Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Colorado in 1964, and United States Ambassador to Switzerland in 1975.
