OBITUARY Iron County Reporter May 15 2002 "Obituaries: Samuel Abata"
IRON MOUNTAIN-Samuel V. Abata, 82, died May 11 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 2, 1919 in Caspian, the son of the late Ralph and Mary Abata. He grew up in Caspian. On Feb. 7, 1941 he married Maxine Cardneau at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. They resided in Kingsford except for a couple of years at which time they resided in Caspian. He worked in the area as a bus driver and later for the Hanna Mining Company. He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. He enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, sporting events, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter Laverne (Doug) Nuding of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Joe (Kay) of Kenosha, Wis. and Carmen (Irma) of Caspian; a sister Angeline (Charles) Reiser of Milwaukee, Wis., three grandchildren, Peter (Yvette) Chervo of San Antonio, Tex., Christine (Kevin) Reed of Onsted and Stephanie Abata of Marquette; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Leah and Madisyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Joseph Gouin officiating.
Burial was in Breitung Township Cemetery in Quinnesec.
