STANTON — Bernetta "Bernie" A. Lais, 80, Stanton, passed away on July 18, 2011, at Benedictine Living Center, Garrison. Services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT Thursday, July 21, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton, with the Rev. Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will be at Stanton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. CDT today at Barbot-Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Bernie was born in Minot on Feb. 26, 1931, to Christ and Regina (Steinwand) Engel. She was the second of seven children. Bernie was raised and educated north of Garrison. In 1947, she met Myles "Mike" Lais, the love of her life, at the Dug Out Cafe in Garrison. They married that same year and out of their marriage came six children. Bernie traveled with her family throughout the country following Mike's work. They eventually made their permanent home in 1969 at Stanton.

Bernie was a beautiful lady, inside and out. Her favorite times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers, especially her gladiolas. Bernie had a gift of talking and a beautiful smile, and loved to visit with whoever walked by.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Dale (Wendy) Lais, Big Lake, Minn.; daughters, Dianne (Danny) Bakken, Stanton, Jane (Neil) Leinius, Bismarck, and Barb (Rick) Leinius, Stanton; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Engel, Washington, and Duane (Wanda) Engel, Garrison; three sisters, Shirley Toole, Bismarck, Juanita (Leland) Grosz, Garrison, and LaVern Knutt, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; her son Raymond; and her infant daughter, Cindy.
