DYNAMITE KILLS REINHOLD HEINE
Reinhold Heine, a former Wadena citizen, met a horrible death Saturday at his home 4 1/2 miles east of Bertha village, where he was engaged in farming. Heine lived in Wadena about 17 years ago. He married Katie Thome, daughter of Nick Thome, who conducted a hotel next door to where the Equity creamery now stands.
Mr Heine was killed by a dynamite explosion while at work blowing out stumps on his farm. He was working about a quarter of a mile from his home and the hired man was working in the same field, but some little distance off. Two neighbors were working on their land adjoining the Heine farm and they had a little boy with them.
The dynamite explosions were frequent during the afternoon and had it not been that the little boy chanced to see Heine fall after setting off a charge, the men at work nearby would probably not have discovered the accident for some time.
The Little boy told the men that he "saw Mr. Heine fall down." They promptly went to investigate. Heine had severe injuries including a fractured skull. While he had been knocked down by the explosion, he got back to his feet and with the assistance of the neighbors, he walked about a quarter of a mile. He was taken into the home of a neighbor, not being able to reach his own home. There he lingered between life and death for several hours before passing away. The accident occurred about 3 o'clock and Heine lived until 7 o'clock in the evening.
Heine was a native of Germany, but he had lived many years in this country. He is survived by a wife and five children, two boys and three girls. The youngest child is a baby girl two weeks old. His mother is still living in Germany and he has a brother, Robert Heine, of St Paul, and a sister, Mrs Henry Steger, also of St Paul. The deceased's wife is a niece of Mrs Anton Nesges of this city. Mr Heine would have been 47 years old next July.
The remains were brought to this city and the funeral was held from St. Ann's church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Father Yzermans, of Verndale, officiated, in the absence of Father Lenger. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery here.
