Esther Louise Buttke, 94, Valley City, died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Esther Louise Palm was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., where she grew up and attended school. She moved to Buffalo, N.D., where she did housework. On May 20, 1929, she married Orion Buttke in Moorhead. They lived in Buffalo until 1948 when they moved to Valley City. In 1962, they moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where they lived until he retired in 1973. They moved to Cotton Lake near Detroit Lakes, Minn., and returned to Valley City in 1978. He died in 1999.

She is survived by two sons, Carl (Marilyn), Valley City, Paul (Charlene), Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia (Chris) Ley, Valley City; a sister, Margaret Johnson, Concord, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday from 10 to 7 in Oliver-Nathan Funeral Home, Valley City, and Saturday from 9 to 10 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City.

Funeral: Saturday at 10 in the church.

Burial: Buffalo Cemetery.
