Harry L. Barton, 82, known as the "Father of Central Schools" in the Pine Plains area, died Feb. 28 at Sheffield, MA. He served on the Pine Plains Central School Board for 19, with 5 years as president. He was one of the prime movers in forming the centralization of the school districts in the Pine Plains area. The son of Frederick Lewis & Elizabeth Hoysradt Barton, he was born and raised in Ancramdale. In 1912 he married Mary H. Curtin, who died in 1939. His second wife, Mrs. Bertha Weaver Barton, survives him in Millerton. Also survived by daus Natalie Barton and Mrs. John D. Freney, both Pine Plains; 3 grandchildren; brother Floyd Barton, Ancramdale.
