U.S. Congressman. After completing law school, he was admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced to practice law in Windham, Connecticut. He was a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives, (1844-45, 50, 58), clerk of the Connecticut State Senate, in 1847 and Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, in 1857. In 1859, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1863. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was again a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives in 1870 and practiced law until his death at age 60.
