US Congressman. Served in the United States Army during World War I, first as a Private in the Infantry, then as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a pilot in first the 80th, then the 1014th Aero Squadrons. He suffered a plane crash in France in 1918 that caused him to lose both legs. Upon his return to the United States he because a successful insurance businessman, and was elected to represent Connecticut’s 1st District in the United States House of Representatives on three separate occasions. He first served from 1939 to 1941, when he defeated incumbent Herman P. Koppleman for the seat. In turn he was defeated for re-election by Koppleman in 1941. He was again elected to the seat in 1943, defeating Koppleman in the election. He represented the 1st District for the second time from 1943 to 1945, when Koppleman again defeated him. In 1947 he challenged Koppleman for a third time, and was again elected to represent the 1st District for a third time. This time he served from 1947 to 1949, when he was defeated by Abraham Ribicoff (who would go on to be Governor of Connecticut and a Senator) for the seat. William Jennings Miller died in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1950.
